Assortment is where wholesale buyers make or lose margin. Too few styles and you cannot sell; too many and you carry dead stock in every shape.

Start with shape families, not individual styles

Buyers think in families: aviator, square, round, cat-eye, wrap and sport. Pick 3–5 families that match your market, then take 2–3 colourways inside each.

Colour ratio that usually works

Adjust for your climate and customer: coastal markets sell more mirrored lenses, inland markets sell more neutrals.

Price tiers

Two tiers are the minimum: an opening price point that drives volume and a step-up model (polarised, glass lens, better frame material) that carries the margin. A third premium tier is optional but makes the middle tier look like value.

How many styles?

As a working rule: 15–25 styles for a container, with 50–150 pcs per style. That spreads freight across enough units while keeping each line deep enough to reorder.
