Almost every eyewear quality complaint traces back to one of a handful of predictable defects. Knowing them lets you inspect for them before the container leaves.
The usual suspects
- Surface scratches from loose packing or contact between frames.
- Lens haze or coating defects — often invisible until held against light.
- Hinge and screw failures — loose, stripped or misaligned.
- Colour mismatch between the approved sample and the run.
- Label and packaging errors — wrong UV claim, missing tags.
How to prevent them
- Approve a golden sample and keep it — the reference for every run.
- Inspect on light, not on a table: lens defects show against a light source.
- Functional test a sample of hinges and temples, not just the appearance.
- Verify claims — UV400, polarisation and tint category match the paperwork.
- Photograph the packed cartons before shipment so packing disputes are settled with evidence.
Where it goes wrong
Most failures happen in packing and final inspection, not in production. Individual polybags, a protective inner carton and a final audit catch the vast majority.
